Registration Form (PDF)
News 3/27/08 The Met Continues Popular “Art in the Afternoon” Educational Series
We offer our own exciting Art in the Afternoon formal art class for kids 5 – 8 (described below), and we're pleased to also host these classes by other childhood development experts (described on a new page):
Our popular Art in the Afternoon program continues! This program is offered by The Met and taught by Miss Gail for children ages 5 to 8. This is not a typical craft workshop, but a program that teaches art techniques using various mediums.
An Art Show concludes each four-week unit. This was Working with Watercolors, 4/27/08.

This program will be done in units of four classes per unit. This first class will introduce the medium and some examples and some of the art and artists. The next three classes will involve projects that use the materials, and the final class will have an art show to present the various pieces of art created by the students.
The Classes will be offered in units of four classes on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30. The fee is $60 per child per unit for members and $70 for non-members. These programs require advanced registration (use this form). Our third session begins September 11th, 2008.
Session 3 - Unit 1
Pretty Cool Printing — September 11, 18, 25 & October 2
The art of printing or stamping dates back to ancient times. The students will work with various mediums and tools such as gadget printing, sponges and linoleum blocks to create their own works of art.
Session3 - Unit 2
Art from Nature — October 9, 16, 23, 30
What works of art can you make using milkweed or ocean rocks? This is a very imaginative program that looks at nature through an artists eye. Nature provides the medium and the tools, your child provides the creativity.
Session 3 - Unit 3
Chalk & Pastels — November 6, 13, 20 & December 4
We will be using this medium to capture shadows, still life and seascapes. There will be special emphasis on techniques such as blending, shading, smudging and overlapping as we work with both soft and vibrant colors.
"It is so wonderful to see the students get excited when they discover how much they can do and create," Miss Gail (Maas), resident artist and instructor at the Met.
"With a craft, children follow directions to complete a project and try to make it look like the example we give them. With art, the children have the ability to really explore their creativity and individuality."
