Kindermusik music classes at the Met Children's Museum

Kindermusik is a music and movement program designed to foster the overall development of children, newborn to 7 years old. Each week in class you'll play, listen, and dance to music that will impact you and your child in profound ways. That's because every song, story, and two-step has a carefully chosen purpose in this creative curriculum-one that's designed to stimulate and strengthen the vital neural wiring taking place in your child's mind, right now.

Miss Bethany, a Kindermusik educator and pediatric physical therapist, will guide you every step of the way so you know how each activity contributes to your child's overall growth and development. So whether it's twirling under a sea of scarves, experimenting with age-appropriate instruments, singing about a scampering squirrel, creating a musical ensemble, or snuggling in your lap during story time, Kindermusik speaks your children's language and offers them (and you!) the best music and movement class available.

Family Time (ages newborn - 7)

One convenient music class designed for the whole family! In the Here, There and Everywhere, unit the five sub-themes center around different family outings: a visit with a friend, an outing at the park, a trip to the city, an afternoon at the aquarium, and a day on the farm. Move like animals with this unit's story Flip-Flap, Sugar Snap! Follow a girl's adventure as she loses her tambourine during the day's outings and then finds it in the story Jingle-Jangle Jambourine.

At-Home Materials include 2 books-Flip-Flap, Sugar Snap! and Jingle-Jangle Jambourine, two music CDs, a Family Guide, board game, Waggs the dog hand puppet and finger puppet, and two jambourine instruments. Sign up ...

Imagine That! (ages 3-5 1/2)

In the preschool Imagine That! unit Hello Weather! Let's Play Together!, sunshine, rain, snow, thunderstorms, and more are the subject of an imaginative and delightful weather-related musical adventure.

Preschoolers create storm sounds with a drum, jump in pretend puddles, throw pretend snow-balls, and sing along to a song about the colors of the rainbow. They'll be surrounded in a creative musical environment that integrates music, pretend play, story telling, movement, and more. The class fosters creativity and individuality and further expands preschoolers' developing cognitive and literacy skills.

Preschoolers attend the first 30 minutes of class alone, and then are joined by adult caregivers and siblings for the final 15 minutes of class sharing time. Learning continues outside the classroom with At Home Materials, which include two CDs, two story books (Michael Finnigan and Hurry Home, Little Kittens) a play set ,and two instruments (ankle bells and rain shaker with scraper). There are also weekly home activities in a Family Activity Guide to reinforce classroom concepts, and everything is packed in a preschool-size backpack for carrying things to and from class.
